.357 Magnum Revolver. This Fifty-one year old beautiful monster was shapen in the old days when Smith and Wesson produced beautifully fitted, polished and deeply blued revolvers. They were chambered for cartridges that belched huge balls of fire and made men tremble!! This particular piece sports the audacious looking 3 1/2 inch barrel carried by Patton and Hoover. This one was carried for a few years by a Southern Cal detective many years ago. Of course, the front sight is pinned in and the chambers are recessed. The gun has the desirable 'S' prefix serial number, original wood 'magna' grips with matching serial numbers. Like all model 27's, it has the beautifully checkered topstrap. The gun functions flawlessly, I have put only a cylinder or two of ammo through this gun since I have owned it.
It is all original as it left the factory in 1966. (The same year that the 'song' They're coming to take me away...ha ha' came out!). I have a period correct (but not original to the gun) navy blue factory box, included brochure and little screwdriver, etc. still sealed in the little plastic bag. The bore and chambers are shiny bright. There is some wear at the end of the barrel and some abrasion wear on the side surfaces that are apparent in some of the photos when the light is right. This was most likely due to laying the gun in a desk drawer or gunlocker.
This revolver, the era that it was made, the model, and the barrel length make this revolver very special and unique, probably only appreciated by fans of old classic Smith revolvers.
