The Carbine should have a rear sight marked with a "C" at the rear of the sight base
Also the sling swivels should not be present...and a handguard should be present...
The barrel should be 22 inches long...
There should be a saddle ring on the left side of the stock if its a true 1896 Carbine and not been re-worked...
If this is rifle that has been cut down , then it is still a handy carbine length rifle and well worth considering.
