I just received a 1871/84 Mauser and I was cleaning it. I struck me that the bolt design looks like a (very simple) Mosin Nagant 1891 bolt. Looks like the Russians took the basic 1871 bolt design and improved it.

I thought most of the Mosin Nagants design ideas came from the Mannlicher and Lebel. I guess at this point in time ever nation was taking everyone's else's ideas for rifle design.

Has anyone else noticed this?

In history class they taught us that Russian internet hacking was rampant in the late 1800's.
This was all back before reverse engineering was even thought of. o_O

Wait? On second thought. I think your probably right. ;)

After all Mauser sued the U.S. for stealing there design and building the 1903 rifle.

That last part, kinda, i don't recall suing, but they did admit to it basically being copied, and agreed to pay royalties up to a point, i think, 1911.
