Got to be careful about assuming things...when looking up the history behind a item

All I see for sure...is a hand written date on a magazine page.

What someone remembers....may be faulty

in any event...
Finding one exactly like yours is difficult...so that may mean something....
What that something is...I an't sure.

What I do know...
Is most sources agree that these were from the 1960's and 70's.
Albeit with a blue cover

Out of morbid curiosity, pulling from my inner Hilldog, what difference does it make? I saw one post mentioning that they may have not been sanctioned by Colt.

Also, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

Thanks for all your help with this Andy. I agree with you on all points.... I just hate it when I can't get to the bottom of something that's for sure....lol.... Looks like I'll be ordering a 1949 American rifleman... Which is ironic because the guy had every single issue at the estate sale and I should have grabbed them but I didn't have enough room after I loaded up the back of my truck with everything else...

Yes, I saw that same thread also and if it's the one I'm thinking of the guy described it exactly as mine... Except for via no way to put pictures on and it withered away into the bowels of the form...

I might have some American Rifleman magazines that are from 1949....
As I said...I collect books as well as antique firearms.
I will take a look and see.

That would be great and then I can put an into this once and for all it's kind of been a little mystery. I've been trying to get to the bottom of for quite some time...

Again, playing the devil's advocate, what difference does it make if it's from 1949?

In the book collecting world...
At times various editions or even printings of a book , can affect the value of it.

In this case...
I am thinking that it really doesn't matter , since no other source , other than a hand written note , mentions a date of 1949

I guess the only difference it makes is that it's not the one made in 1961..... Which now that I think about it makes a little more sense if this letter was written asking about it in 1969.... But that particular one that Andy has shown steel doesn't look the same...

It's either a one of a kind, in which case it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Or it's a one off and it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Naturally, I'm hoping to say one of a kind...lol... But it's quite possible it could just be a black market unsanctioned by Colt item that was not supposed to legally be made.... As mentioned somewhere over on the Colt forum

Yes...
However....
Editions and printing issues / dates / numbers ....matter....a lot in the book collecting world.

And again....

In this case...I agree it don't matter ...since most sources agree that these are from the 1960's / 70's...

So I would go with that date and pricing.....somewhere around $100- $200 and be happy with the first $75 - $125 that came my way...
If these were mine.

Thank you Roseburg. I always knew in the back of my mind that these people were inquiring about this before I got it because of its age or something to that effect. I mean they wrote the letter in 1969...

Whoops! Thanks mt pockets. Appreciate it..... Well I guess that clears two things up. It's made at least in 1949 and I still can't find another one.... Thanks everyone for helping. Appreciate trying to put an end to this thing once and for all
