Hey there, I'm hoping somebody can help me with this thing and trying to price it... I've already asked over on the colt forums and it didn't seem like anybody had any idea on the value or where these originated from... There is another set with a blue background that was made in the '70s or so, but this one is verified made in 1949 or earlier... And was advertised in the back pages of rifleman magazine for $70... Anyways, they're 14 miniatures in a leather box that is made to look like a book with a velvet backing and they're very detailed. I believe they're pewter or something a little stronger than that.. personally, I think they're pretty cool, but I'm not a collector of Colt stuff.. and would like to trade or sell it off.. but as I said, I have nothing to compare it to and no sell point other than what the blue box version has sold for... Thanks ..... For some reason the pictures wouldn't load on this post...

Yeah, that seems like the more plain blue boxed one, although it does contain the same amount of guns and probably are the same guns, but it's thought that those were made somewhere in the '70s or '80s... I'm looking for the specific one with the red velvet in the book like case with the ornate latch Made in 1949....thanks

Yes...I saw that you are looking the one with the red velvet....which is what I found...in that price range of $75 to 175 or so.
Good luck with your sale.

Well, I've been looking for quite some time and still haven't found the exact one that I have pictured. Anyway to get a link to the one you're talking about... thanks

There is one that looks a bit similar except for the cover's and it's produced by a different company and it even looks like the guns might be positioned different... Could that be the one that you're talking about

Thanks but that's not the right one. Like I said that was made by a different person and the guns look like they're placed different. That or they got mixed up and the person you has it didn't play some correctly... Also on a side note it comes with a 125th anniversary coin which would put that set at 1961.. My set is documented to at least 1949...thanks

Pretty sure the book didn't come out in 1949....
I collect books as well ....and am pretty good about looking things up.
but if you have documentation...then good luck with your sale.

Don't be so sure.... Here is a picture of the gun being advertised in the back pages of a 1949 rifleman's magazine... The people I got this from wrote a letter in 1969 to rifleman magazine asking if they had any information about it to which they didn't... Either way, thanks for the help

Well the handwritten note was from the people I got it from and I believe it was 1969 or sometime in the '60s. That's what it's dated... And then in the top of the picture of it for sale in the American rifleman magazine. It is written as 1949... I'm assuming that's the date since that's what's written up there in the people. I got it. From's father who owned it originally had a huge collection of American riflemen probably spanning back to the first issue....... What I'm really trying to figure out is why can't I find this exact one anywhere sure there's the one that you showed... (By the way, thanks) But it is different. If you look at the cover closely it's not the same. Also the person who made it is not the same person that's on my cover... And when I'm trying to price something I like to deal in exacts if possible...thanks

I guess at this point the best thing to do would would see if someone has a 1949 American rifleman magazine and this ad is in the back....

The only thing I'm 100% sure about is the letter that the people sent to American riflemen along with this picture I have here... Got the post date on it and the reply date from the magazine typed on it
