In the National Hockey League (NHL), the phrase "50 goals in 50 games" refers to a player scoring 50 goals within the first 50 (or fewer) games of his team's season. An extremely rare feat, the NHL has only officially deemed five players in eight different seasons to have reached the mark; Brett Hull is the most recent occurrence, having done so in 1990–91.
The NHL's official designation of the accomplishment refers to 50 goals scored in the team's first 50 games, not the player's first 50 games; therefore, there have been several more instances of 50 goals in 50 games that are not officially recognized by the league due to the player having missed some of his team's first 50 games due to injury, disciplinary action, or other reasons. These unofficial 50 goals in 50 games can be divided into two categories; players that scored 50 goals in 50 straight games at any point in the season, or players that have scored 50 goals in their first 50 individual games. Eight players have had seasons of 50 goals in 50 games in the former method, while four have done so in the latter; two players (Jari Kurri and Mario Lemieux) accomplished both. The most recent unofficial 50 goals in 50 games season was Auston Matthews' 2021–22 season, scoring 50 goals between his 18th and 67th games of the season.
