Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
This is a public recreational shooting area. It is unmanned and open to the public 365 days a year from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. If the area is to be closed for cleaning or maintenance it will be posted here as well as Oregon Department of Forestry's webpage otherwise it is open year round. We highly encourage using proper manufactured targets and that you pack in and pack out everything you bring.
That's sounds about right from people was telling really good info thanks someone told me 100 yards and when I got there said to myself this more then that
In the review of the gravel pit it said a discover pass is needed. I have the access pass that comes with the fishing and hunting licenses. Will that do?
Not all that recently, but in late April. There were three active shooters when I arrived. Also, the pit was being worked by loggers. The shooters left, the logger left, I was by myself for a while. This has been a busy year for me so far, so haven't done as much shooting as I'd like. In the meantime, my friend who lived in Everson has died so I don't have as much reason to drive up to Whatcom Co. But I probably will in future anyway.
You can:
(G) Engage in target shooting or other shooting related activity at times between one half-hour after sunset until one half-hour before sunrise.

These shooting lanes abide by Tillamook State Forest shooting regulations. Legal shooting hours are from sun up to sun down.
Folks tend to arrive very early on the weekends to insure getting a shooting lane.
Open. Was just up there yesterday. road between the first lane and the turn off from the dirt road can be a bit tough if you have a low-clearance car (like my ford focus hatch...)
With the exception of some scheduled cleanups and major repairs the lanes are accessible 24/7. Im not sure if ODF has allowed shooting hours in the forests such as dawn till dusk. You should be able to get that info from their website if someone doesn't chime in and answer that for you.

Hello, I've been corresponding on another topic w/you RE: CHL.
The outcome on all that was outstanding!
Another topic, I need a place for FFL items (Full rifle, AR lowers) to land and am inquiring if this is in your wheelhouse.
Thanks, Tim in Port Orford
Does anyone know of a long range area that I can sight in a couple of rifles? Not looking for the English Pit or a short range place like the one in Camas. I am located in South Washington state in the Gorge. Willing to travel for a decent range.
What alarmed me was the amount of people who decided to just pull off the side of the road and just start shooting. Even though it was clearly not safe and signed "no shooting". In recent years I've seen a steady increase of shady activity and have learned not to go up alone.
May head up there this weekend for the first time. First time shooting on public land, what kind of targets? Should I bring steel? Build a quick frame of wood to hang paper on?
a wood stand with paper targets is fine as long as you remove it when done. Same with steel. This time of year shooting the steel targets isnt a fire hazard.
Anyone know if the "long range" is still accessible and usable or is it part that is blocked off? (The 200 yard range right at the coordinates listed above)
Thanks
