Take a look at a leupold one piece mount. That's what I did on mine.

Post some pictures. Are you trying to make it work with current holes? Do you know if it is drilled for a Redfield JR base, or for something else? I have a spare COOP copy of the JR base, like they use on 1903A4 clones. I also a have a S&K no-drill scope base for 03A3.

I have three 1903 sporters -two have leupoldbades and one uses a butler base. The whole pattern and distances between holes will go a long ways in answering your question.

Here is my 1903a3 leupold base. It measures from front hole to back hole 912" and between the two front holes. .853" these are rough figures taken with a micometer.
