Had this gun since I was a kid in the 50s. Been stored 40+ years. Got back into shooting recently. Got out my favorite gun to clean. The slide release button is very difficult to push in to release slide. Oil fixes it but only for 1 day. Gunsmith has it now but can't figure out what's wrong. I remember the forearm got damaged and was replaced. I noticed the model 42 forearms online are slightly different lengths-6 3/4 to 7 1/4. Couldn't find what actual length should be. Could that be the problem?
