My local gunsmith (father in law) has never seen a IJ with metal grips like that. Thinks it's more special then that.Start searching Iver Johnson?

Grips might come away from the rest of the mess.I have know clue? How could I tell
I was hoping the eagle on the grips would help but I can't find anything similar. Mexican eagle possibly? I don't believe you want to remove grips, hurt the value I'm assuming.Grips might come away from the rest of the mess.
Coin shop or possibly pawn shop could check for silver content.
The bundle of arrows isn't a Mexican eagle thing.I was hoping the eagle on the grips would help but I can't find anything similar. Mexican eagle possibly? I don't believe you want to remove grips, hurt the value I'm assuming.
You're right, not Mexican eagle. US Eagle holding olive branch with arrows. The bundle of arrows isn't a Mexican eagle thing.
No expert, but I would assume they were added to the gun at some point.
Not sure what it is but a little WD40 should make it look like new.
Thanks for giving me something to researchI would wild guess that is a US service pistol circa WW1. The great seal looks similar to the great seal of the US of 1913.
Try looking around the WW2 era. I notice the seal doesn't have the "E Pluribus Unum" which may be significant. Thanks for giving me something to research
Funny you mention the S&W, I was looking at those earlier.S&W WW2 Victory model revolver, maybe? It sure looks like it.
