380, 9, 10, 38, 357, 45C, & .308.

Started 2 1/2 years ago with a 'kit', set of .308 dies, and the honest intention of saving $ - Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I'm pretty sure a lot of us fell into that trap.
reload your own ammo they said, save a bunch of money they said...yeah right!!!
i was just a cheapskate when I first started reloading so can actually save money. Then I realized the cheap loads were just that, cheap! Then you start spending money on better components, testing more to actually find a good load...next thing you know your loads end up costing you more than match grade factory loads. SMH!

Going to start loading soon. I finally have everything I need (thanks to @Benchrest who helped me out with some primers and bullets), except the extra time, which will hopefully open up a bit as we move into fall. I'm starting out with the Lee Classic 4-Hole Turret.

I'll start with 9 and once I'm comfortable that I have that down, I'll move on to .45, .40, .38/.357 and .308 for my first rifle caliber, maybe 6.5x55 later?. I also have an old MEC loader for 12 gauge - I'm planning to do my own buckshot to save a bit on those loads - I used to load 12 gauge for my dad years ago, it was kind of fun back then.

I also have a Lee Classic Turret. With the Safety Prime, and the Pro Auto Disk, I'm loading either 100 9mm, or 100 .45 ACP in about 35-40 minutes. There is very little case prep needed. Rifle rounds, OTOH, require case prep time. This goes faster using the Lee Quick Trim than with the hand trimmer. IMHO, the Quick Trim is worth the $40 bucks. Once past the case prep, I'm loading 100 .223 rounds in a little over an hour. Mostly because I'm currently using a "stick" powder that doesn't meter well. So, I still have to put each charge on the scale. If ever I find a good source for a spherical powder, the load process will speed up some.

On the Lee Turret 4 Hole:
  • 9mm
  • .40
  • .357 Mag
  • .38spc
  • .44 Mag
  • .223
Each has it's own turret head, it's own powder drop I don't want to swap anything, just grab the shell holder and turret, drop powder into it and load (of course that is after I verify the powder drop is what it should be).

When listening to music and getting into a groove I realized I can do about 300 rounds in 90 minutes of everything BUT .223 and .44Mag. That's with the obligatory breaks for adding more primers to the safety prime and verifying powder loads every so often and potty stops.

On the Lee Breech Lock
  • .300 Savage (and any other larger rifle caliber)
I started two years ago I believe with a Lee all in one reloading kit for the .300 Savage. I figured that if I could reload and safe $1 per round vs store bought ammo I could make it worth my time. Then came the Breech Lock press and I was loading .40 on single stage. Slowly the calibers came from .243 to .357 etc and I needed a way to load faster and I bought a turret. Have been happy since.

Exactly - Just grab the turret off the rack and go!

Setup to loading is about minute :)

I have loaded for several cartridges in the past and still have the equipment for them, (38/357, 41 Mag, 45-70, 7mm-08, 500 S&W Mag, 375 Ruger) but have settled on just 2 that I load for (45 ACP and 30-06). I've sold all of the guns that I don't load for anymore except the 7mm-08, which doesn't get shot enough for me to invest the time. When the boy gets older I believe we'll start doing 30-30 until he moves on, if he does, to a different caliber.

Still pondering changing to a 30-06 Ackley Improved... :)
