Am I crazy for having an itch to put a light on a new competition gun? It's only going to be used on the range/uspsa matches. Not going to carry it. Literally the only reason I want to put one on is I love the look of them, I know, I'm weird. Maybe one day I'd shoot it at low light just to have some fun but definitely not often.

I guess thats one way to outshine the competition......

There was a thread created on this a few days ago:

There is a noticeable difference in recoil when the light is attached to this unmodified Prodigy 5.0" (PH9119AOS).
But, I think that the noticeable difference could easily be achieved by just tuning the pistol for competition.

Another thing to consider is how the addition of a light would affect the way you manipulate the firearm. Would it interfere with your grip, the way you cycle the slide, or re-holstering the pistol? The forward weight may end up being detrimental if the bulk of the light slows you down. I don't compete, so factor that in when weighing my opinion.

You could add a weapon mounted light and holster when you decide to shoot a low light course....or just use a quality handheld torch.

Whether punching paper or ringing steel, wishing you safe and enjoyable range time.

I guess I should have mentioned that my interest is not for recoil, it's purely esthetics and lumens, should there ever be a need for them with this weapon. I'm not opposed to it helping recoil but I'm not chasing that. This gun will be tuned to race a lot faster than I can shoot it just yet. I'm putting in the practice!!! I just like WML and have them on all my duty weapons as I've been training in the (what I like it call) Garand Thumb style or tacti-cool haha, so I guess it's more out of habit to have a light on a gun. It's definitely not going to be my go to for any situation other than heading to the range or a competition but ya never know what could happen...

I'm sure this falls into the, it's my gun my money, who cares what other people think category but I'm always curious for others' opinions and I'm certainty no veteran in the competition world.

thank you for your insight.

I would recommend getting the Surefire X300A, and then get the QVO Tactical 'Thumb Cliff". Here is what it looks like on my Staccato- it does a GREAT job of creating a 'gas pedal' place to rest your thumb, so you can really control the recoil. So between the weight of the light and the thumb rest gas pedal, the gun doesnt move when firing, especially when I have it mounted to my Staccato XC! PLUS- it looks BADASS! ;-) Mounted to the XC, the surefire lines up just perfectly to the end of the comp . . .

If you want to read some weapon light opinions..... I have just the thread for you. :D

If you have weapon lights on your duty weapons, it may be beneficial to use a mounted light in competition to reinforce your training.
And low-light range time is a blast...errr flash.
