War Clouds Are Scudding Over the Falklands, and This Time It Could Be Far More Dangerous

"President Xi of China and President Fernández of Argentina have inked a joint statement supporting Argentine claims to the Falkland Islands. "We firmly support Argentina's claim to full sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands," it reads, using the Argentine name for the British Overseas Territory."

"This might be mere game-playing. Yet it might also be a sign of looming danger."

Message to the Queen - stay out of the South China Sea?

Just China stirring the pot. Nothing more.

Argentina is not in a good position to start a conflict with the UK, and China really isn't willing to start WIII over the Falklands. The Brits won it.

If Argentina is really that worried about the how, they should ask themselves why they speak spanish today.

Tomorrow is Día de las Malvinas (Malvinas Day) in Argentina, in which the war dead are remembered from the conflict in the early 1980s. Here's hoping we don't have a sequel to this.
