I got my hands on one of these a month back - Griffon Heat and Mirage Mitigation Systems

Did some long distance shooting with my 700p and 762SD Suppressor a couple weeks ago but I completely forgot I had the Griffon off and was waiting for the mirage to dissipate. Of course while waiting I remember I had it in my range bag and as soon as I slipped it on - mirage went away!

Definitely saves waiting for the cool down time at the range to take off and put the suppressor in your range bag after a shooting a while.

That's the cheapest NFA stuff I have seen:laugh: Plus I bet you don't have to wait a year or longer to take it home;)

Some soaked burlap works just as well if you're using a suppressor for a bolt gun...makes great camo as well.

Good guys there at Rainer. One of the few gun stores I've walked into as a stranger and felt at home right away.
I do like the burlap idea, nice.

Those will melt if you leave them on as they look like they are intended only to remove the suppressor. The Griffon you can leave on and helps eliminate mirage.

I respectfully disagree. They are made to be on the suppressor while shooting.

silencer temperature will vary, natch, depending on specific application. a silicone
wrap should be designed to co-exist with the worst case scenario. generally, 5-600ºF
for a silencer though it can go higher if you're running full-auto. many general
purpose silicone wraps will max out about 500ºF. so the devil will be in the details
and for each person to apply and consider.

I got a heat resistant glove. This one works for $30. You could try one of the $12 ones meant for working with curling irons.

How's that going to mitigate atmospheric distortion coming off the suppressor?

The best solution is to have a whole lot of suppressed firearms. That way they have time to cool down.
