Year of Manufacture: 1995 (BF date code)
Caliber: .45 Caliber Ball (.451")
Action Type: Single Shot Percussion
Markings: The left of the barrel at the rear is marked with a series of Italian proofs, "BF" in square date code and the serial number, the top of the barrel is marked "EUROARMS OF AMERICA". The lockplate is marked "Volunteer" and with a Parker Hale crown at the rear.
Barrel Length: aprox 32" to the nipple
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded, beaded post dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a folding ladder sight in a base with three notches. When folded down, the sight presents a "U" notch which can be set on any of the three notches marked "1", "2" and "3", when folded up, a slider with a "V" notch is presented with the ladder marked "5", "6", "7" and "8".
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with brass nosecap, two steel barrel bands, straight grip, brass buttplate and sling swivels mounted to the front barrel band and trigger guard. The stock has some scattered very light dings and scuffs. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered minor wear and tarnish, in about Very Good condition. Overall, the stock is in about Very Good to excellent condition and does not appear to have been refinished. I would put the crisp checkering at about perfect.
Finish Originality: Not Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The brass fixtures all show a mustard-colored patina with scattered tarnish, but should polish up well. The barrel has no finish loss. The hammer and lockplate have stron case-color with only a few minor marks. The screw heads are sharp to and all appear to be original. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellentd condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. I would recommend a thorough cleaning and lube.
Overall Assessment: This rifle is a modern reproduction of the Parker Hale Volunteer percussion rifle. With its 33" barrel, great bore and adjustable target sights, it should be able to wring all of the possible accuracy out of a .451 caliber projectile. The rifle is in about Excellent condition with nearly all of its original finish, a great bore and strong mechanics. A fine shooter to your collection.
