We won't be seeing any of these coming into the nation anytime soon. The Vepr rifles are built in the Molot factory in Russia, and are the pinnacle of Russian sporting firearms. This big beast is a few inches shy of Dragunov territory (literally, SVD-63 has a 23" barrel, I believe mine is 20"), possibly the meanest sniper rifle ever made for the Red Army. It has some of the most beautiful woodwork I've ever seen (classic Soviet red and black), and remains largely pristine. A few bumps, scrapes and bruises here and there from the previous owner. I've had it for several years and I have fired precisely 25 premium (ie not corrosive surplus, not steel cased, some quality 54R) cartridges through it, which was an absolute blast. It includes the rifle itself, a plastic 10-round magazine, and a steel 15-round magazine. Aftermarket parts are easy enough to find, though be prepared to spend quite a bit for quality scopes and mounts. Those are drying up fast too.
I had planned to get a proper scope, but my safes are filling up faster than I thought with all sorts of odds and ends, and since I very rarely use this, it needs to go to someone who will appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it, and give it the attention it deserves.
Vepr's have been sold out everywhere for years. I am in no rush to sell, I am not interested in trades on this one, and I'm not wiggling on my price. If that's a bit too rich for your taste, I believe another gentleman on NWF is selling his Vepr for $2,200, with generic plastic furniture. They were $1,000 at their cheapest, and those days are long gone. These rifles are only going to go up in price, same as the Mausers, Enfields and Mosins before them. I suppose if you happened to have a Maxim MG kit, M1910, chambered in 7.62x54R, you have my undivided attention for a trade.
