Ohio-based Inland Manufacturing recently announced their ADVISOR M1 handgun. While it is not at all your typical handgun, it is based on tried and true technology.

Suggested Retail Price is $1,239. The handgun will start shipping in March 2016.

Will there be a market for a handgun like this?

Well--the flash suppressor may be a bit unusual, but a M1 carbine based pistol is
far from NEW. Hop on the wayback machine and go to the 60's and 70's.
Iver Johnson and Universal "ENFORCER" pistols.

Id buy one for what some of the rifles cost $500-700 (at most)

But well over 1200+ for a chopped down version? Their "new" tooling didnt cost THAT much. WAY over priced for what it is.

That being said I DO want one, but Id rather have an M1A for the price.

A very, very small one.

Maybe if it was chambered in something OTHER than .30 Carbine

Mmm.. Nope.

You can buy some really cool "pistols" for that kind of scratch. Like a MP5 clone, the EVO scorpion or some of the AR based stuff.

I know it will spark someones fancy but personally I wouldn't buy one for $300 or $200 or probably $150. I can remember buying .30 carbines for around $100 and thinking it was a lot of money for what they where. Course at the time you could buy a SKS for $80

Heck if you have to have a "rifle" caliber handgun, for 1200 you can buy a Magnum Research in lots of different calibers
Like you say though, lots of "nice" stuff in the $1200 range
Is the 30 carbine somewhere around the 44mag?

Most likely military surplus demilled kits. Spent most of the budget they had making recievers. Didn't want to spend more on a proper barrel length. Same thing happens with things like PPSH rifles and or any military rifle that had a less than 16" barrel. Reuse the mil surp barrel and other available parts, make the least amount of stuff needed, sell at 150% to 200% over price you paid per kit.
