We all have had deals that haven't come together, maybe we have stopped trying. Folks trying to work together is maybe the part I miss.
I agree. Sadly, I think some of it is an aging population. Now that I'm retired, I've got plenty of time to arrange meetups for transactions. But boy do I hate driving in well populated areas. When I was young, I'd bounce up to Portland to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on a whim. Nowadays, when making the long drive east of Joseph for our annual elk hunt, I'll drive through Sisters, Madras and Biggs Junction just to avoid Portland traffic. I don't care if it takes an extra hour. Granted, much of it is in my head. I met up with a seller in Salem earlier this year and dreaded the drive up. Once I got there, I realized it wasn't very far off of I-5 and there wasn't much traffic in the area where the pawn shop was located. I would gladly make that trip again for a good deal.

What I really miss is the pre-SB941 days when buying/selling firearms. Wondering whether you will have to make the trip twice adds an extra level of reluctance to long distance transactions.

but my research indicates that BE-86 is pretty much a low-flash alternative to Unique.
Herco might be a close 2nd to Unique as well. Slightly faster than BE-86. Power Pistol is even closer at #35 on the burn chart and Unique at #33.

I have researched this similarly if/when I run out of Unique and it appears there are some good alternatives.

Your location undoubtedly limits your customer base.
Reading your stuff, I know you understand the semantics. Bigger/older animals appreciate the wilderness and a river.
That isn't an accident, and they/I seldom apologize for being antisocial. I created the habitat I wanted to live in three decades ago.
And I know you can understand, I'm appreciative to have helped some bucks grow huge over the years. I can go poor and still be happy, honesty say nobody ever arrived here by accident. Sorry for taking a dump on a great thread, this morning as a warm-fuzzy make-up.

Nothing at all wrong with your location my friend. We spend a week at Eagle Crest just about every year. Sometimes we play golf at Crooked River Ranch. Beautiful country.

2# blue dot and 3# unique left. Want to find some green dot. Green and blue loaded some very nice high speed low pressure 12 gauge shells. Yes it was dirty.

Thanks Monks,
I appreciate the discussion, no disrespect intended or implied.
Thinking "Old Faithfull" is my next screenname.

None taken for sure! I'm guessing we struggle with the same problem in the classifieds. We're so far from most of the forum users that buying and selling is not that easy for us. I see deals all the time that I'd probably snatch right up if I was closer. My wife is thankful I'm not, lol!

Hey man! Some thread drift is part of what makes this site great! Always something happy, sad or incredibly hilarious going on!

Here in WV the Winchester-Olin Ball powders seem easier to find. Auto Comp and WSF both approximate Unique in burning rate and with careful load development are useful substitutes.
With Auto Comp I load the same charge weight as Unique in .32 ACP, .38 Special +P and .45 ACP.
Confirm velocity over chronograph and adjust if necessary, but seldom need to.

I read an article recently discussing BE-86 from Alliant being "close" to Unique. The 44 Special, 45 Colt, 41 Mag, 45 ACP and 9mm were tested. When compared to Unique it took a small amount more (.5 grain-ish) of the BE-86 to duplicate velocities.

It's not Unique, but it may be close enough to be a good substitute.

Another good substitute is Universal. But that has been harder to find for me than Unique in retail stores. I was able to find a few pounds from a couple different members here the last two years thankfully.

The Alliant powders are all hard to get here. I have been using Winchester and Hodgdon Ball Powders as direct substitutes using the same listed charges substituting TiteGroup or WST shotgun for Bullseye and Auto Comp or WSF shotgun for Unique in .38/.357, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt.

231 or HP38 I require a 10% increase in charge weight over Bullseye for a similar result.

I almost hate to suggest it but Ramshot True Blue has been my Unique replacement. Meters well, unlike Unique, and not dirty. Now that I've suggested it as a better alternative to Unique, I won't be able to find it anymore.

I see online that Unique is 'coming' back''.... or is it ?
Has anyone seen it in the Eugene area or maybe even the Bimart at Veneta?
I ask because just as I finished off a pound I got from a veteran reloader I found a WOW recipe for my western-era sixguns.
NOW I WANT MORE MORE MORE .
or even just one pound, pickings in Florence are pretty slim, Bimart is iT.
FYI the magic recipe was 45 colt, 200 grain semi wadcutter from T&B, and 8.8 grains Unique. MY gun lluuuuuuuuuves it
Hey Mike! It just dawned on me, I have most of a pound of Unique I'd give to you. I'll never use it as I can't stand the "crunch" from the small flakes when measuring from the RCBS thrower. If you ever get up this way, it's yours.
