Most flooring of this type is set within a 1/4" to 3/8' of the wall and the base molding stacks on top, unless you're going to install some 3/4" quarter round on top and that will hide the expansion joint space that's required to keep the flooring from buckling.
 
Your house is a typical build with 2x10 joist 16" O.C, (on center - meaning center of joist to center of joist) and 5/8" CDX plywood using 8d nails. Some districts require 3/4" CDX plywood but that is your structural component. Anything on top of that is strictly your choice as long as it doesn't exceed 300 p.s.i. (last I checked several years ago).
