If you're chiefly concerned about self-defense, get a WML first and save up for a better trigger, because even if you'll use the trigger way more you need to see what you might pull the trigger on.

Disclaimer, never been in combat and don't expect to in the future, like most of us (the future bit), so I personally don't find the need to have something that would survive a month in combat as necessary for my run of the mill home defense needs.

I've never had a problem with Olights at all…they always work unless the battery is dead or uncharged, but I get that people don't trust them compared to Surefire or even Stream light. That said, I've got two Olight Odin-minis that honestly seem pretty bombproof for $100ish bucks on sale, and if there was a weak spot it'd be the free tape switch that comes with it. I also have a streamlight TLR1- HLX mounted on my HD AR-"pistol" and the finger switches are pretty intuitive even when mounted on a long(er) gun vs a real pistol.

If you're cash strapped and can't trust Olight get a Streamlight long gun light kit and wait till Black Friday to get a LaRue MBT (like $85) or a GS2 ($115) and you'd still have $100 left over from NOT buying a Surefire.

Uh, citation please. I'm not finding reports of widespread malfunctions from these specific triggers, compared to KAK/Anderson/PSA.....
They had a reputation for drifting pull weight and becoming single stage triggers with use. I sold mine in 2003. Here's a couple of examples of issues. I am sure there are more if you use your Google fu.

A few problems out of maybe thousands of these RRA triggers sold since the 90s? Hardly widespread to me. Unlike apparently Jard triggers or PSA/Anderson.

"Since RRA updated their design and redid their QC they now have a return rate of 1 in 10,000 two stage triggers. That is good to go IMO."<--- from 10 years ago.

Edit but YMMV obviously, and it seems that RRA has redone things and improved QC since then.... Still, it's useful to find more opinions and reports. This will help when the time comes to upgrade triggers. I am also looking at Gieselles and similar.

I have Giessele, Hyperfire, CMC, Rise, a RRA NM, and probably some others. I've heard from multiple sources that LaRue is the best value and darned good regardless of value, and I would do that for a budget.

I'm sure you are correct, as always.

I like the flat bow larue triggers, the last couple I snagged on sale I think were around $100. The Schmid triggers are sub $100 and I really like the one I have. I know people are 50/50 on them but I like streamlight they work for me. I've had a couple surefire g2s while not a "weapon lights" live as long as they were mounted on long guns…..

ALG ACT triggers which are nice... but they are all essentially the same milspec triggers but the ACT triggers break even lighter. The ACT triggers break at 4lbs but are not adjustable other than changing the coil spring inside.
Another vote for the ALG ACT. Very happy with these and have a few stashed for eventual builds. I have an SSA on my primary, but I would not be unhappy with one of these for about a third the price.

@lucusloc , the ARs arent going to be used in my tiny apartment for home defense :s0140: but they'll be used for camp defense and mostly paper punching. For home, I have my cheapo SW40V which doesn't have a rail, or if I need bigger holes, 12ga. I have stupidly bright headlamps and flashlights already... So there is that.

Just I'd like a WML on at least the SBR to make use of some of its rail space lol the other two ARs are gonna be just paper punching for the most part, and the 20" HBAR will get the upgraded trigger, maybe both A2s, maybe all three retros (SBR, 16 and 20" A2s)View attachment 2165497

But that's why I'm kinda looking at the old school M3X for just the SBR..... Or if I could swing the money, a X300 something.
I see a Maglight and duct tape in your near future 👀.
