But no matter how good the barrel, the gunsmith is ultimately going to dictate its true potential. A wonky chamber job and the barrel is useless for precision purposes.

I haven't bought a custom barrel in the last couple years, but I imagine your options are pretty limited due to availability and gunsmith backlog.
 
I just chimed in here so I will ask this question..
Are we talking barrels in general, bolt action or semi-auto?.
I was also wondering who makes a 556 barrel for an AR that would be really accurate, I realize 556 has it limitations but I do sometimes see match barrels for the AR platform...

I was asking about bolt action, but I believe many of the recommendations would cover AR barrels as well.
