This seems like it should be right in your wheelhouse. Spotted this little doe munching on my wife's grapes this afternoon, so I snuck out to employ my new supersoaker. As I got close enough to get a bead on her, we made eye contact. The look she gave me was not one of alertness, but of despair. I could see she was not well. She was obviously crippled in her hind quarters, and had a huge mass of what I later could see was excrement on her tail. The build up was approaching the size of a football. When she tried to walk, she was putting weight on her right rear leg, but her hooves were "knuckling under". If deer have knuckles, she is walking on them. I spoke to her calmly and backed away to the house. She walked about 10 ft and lay down next to our goose berries, where she could browse on them without standing. It would appear to me that her right rear hip is broken, perhaps from being hit by a car, or tangled up in something? I notified our local dept of fish and wildlife, but have not recieved a response yet. She also appears to be stunted. I'm guessing she's a yearling, but stands no more than about 28" at the shoulder. I know it's the time of year that does are running off last year's fawns, but would be surprised if her mother inflicted these kinds of injuries in the process.
Any idea what might have happened to her, or if she has even a slim chance of survival?
Don't know if my crappy pics will be of any help.

Definitely looks like some type of injury. If this was in my area odfw would say let nature take its course, it will fall prey to one of the many predators in the area. The only time ive dispatched animals to end suffering was when there was clearly no hope. Injury looks older so that tells me she made it threw winter, she might have a chance. I wouldn't just kill her as you could face some kick back from local fish and Game. Keep a eye on her and if she starts showing signs of illness contact fish and Game. A few years ago we had a bad case of Hemorrhagic disease in the area, I must have dispatched 30 deer in 2 weeks. You will know if she just lays in one area for days on end and gets extremely weak. Keep us updated

Ditto this.

It's not uncommon I see deer around where I live, and coming onto my property, limping with obvious injuries.

A couple years ago one was so bad I ALMOST called the ODFW to see if I could 'do' anything but I was on my way way out and I suspected they would have just said 'let nature take its course' as well.

That is bubbleguming heartbreaking. :(

Try calling State Police or county sheriff. They're the ones that respond to vehicle hit animals and put them down. It's wrong to leave that poor animal like that.

I can't argue with you Mike. As mentioned, I have notified WDFW. It just so happens that the lady across the street works for our local office. When I left my name and address with their office, they asked her if she knew me. She came over and talked to me Thursday night and requested that I text her the same pictures I posted here. She said she would show them to the local enforcement officer on Friday morning. So far I have heard NOTHING and, of course, will not because now it's the weekend. It's much easier to drive around in your state provided Ram truck than to get off your azz and do your job.
I hadn't thought of calling local police. That's a good idea.
So far she has stuck close and has been spotted in the yards on both the North and South side of us. She's hanging in there, but I don't really believe she's long for this earth. Hope I'm wrong.

Sad, hope relief comes soon.

Sorry folks, I should have updated this days ago. The WDFW was, of course, as worthless as tits! After repeated calls to them, I FINALLY spoke to an "enforcement officer", who had seen the same pictures I posted here. She gave me the "let nature take it's course" BS.
The little doe ended up in my next door neighbor's back yard, where I could see her just laying in one spot and browsing on whatever she could reach, without having to stand. I shared with them the disinterest of WDFW. They called the city police, an officer arrived, and without hesitation, ended the suffering.
I should have immediately taken Mikej's advice on that course of action.

"Let nature take it's course". I could see how they don't have someone to quickly pop out there and do the deed. THEY really should have suggested a police officer. But then see what Oregon has done to the once great fishing in this state? I think the most of them don't give one bubblegum about the sportsman/water enthusiasts.
