I spent most of the day hiking about an area that had, quite literally, no others about. Beautiful country, sunshine, invigorating exercise; just so wonderful. Well, there came a moment in which my body told me that I am not as young as I used to, so I took a seat for a spell. Drank some water, scribbled some notes, read a little from the pocket Bible, and then ... just sat and took in the silence. No human voices, no technology beep-blurps, no noise — just the wind and occasional bird. There is nothing else like it. Such a blessing :)

So true.
People talk about the isolation of the wilderness.
Sit quietly and you will discover, as all the creatures resume their normal activities, that you are most definitely NOT alone.
Just don't sit near a fire ant nest.

Dad's creation is pretty awesome indeed, and very awe inspiring. Sometimes we just need to nurture and nourish the soul.

I like to bring air horns and a repeat copy of the chicken dance song with me just to add to the calm

Sit quietly in a lonely wilderness and you can hear a passing airliner every few minutes.

The things I like about where I live is the quiet and the trees. I like the fact that I don't need to travel to have that solitude and quiet.

I occasionally hear a plane fly overhead - or the occasional tractor/etc. in the vineyards, but 99% of the time it is just silence - especially this time of day.

Of course, being half deaf and not wearing my hearing aids helps - and I usually just ignore the tinnitus.

I see commercials on TV now that are advertising ANC headphones for people to shutout city noise - at least partially - and I feel sorry for them. It isn't just the noise, it is all the "busy-ness"; people, cars, etc. - and I much, very much prefer trees/etc. to buildings/etc.

Just saw a YT vid the other day about migration - how a lot of people are now moving out of large cities, and not just moving to other cities - but many are moving to rural areas. Glad that Oregon has zoning laws that mostly keep new developments within growth boundaries. I know that rural will stay mostly rural.
