I'm not sure if you've ever been around aircraft that's in the middle of falling out of the sky, but from what I've personally witnessed, the process isn't exactly inconspicuous, regardless of light emission.

No, but there are many ops that require aircraft go dark on landing. They may be loud, but they are still easier to hit if they carry their own illumination.

I can't speak for current generation night vision...
But the night vision we had....was late Vietnam vintage and a bit later.
Every damn thing appeared "flat"...it was difficult to walk with....I can't imagine flying with it..

The latest and greatest...don't get issued out too damn fast , to those who need it now.
