I do not even know whose side Syria or all their internal divisions are on.
It's confusing because for the past 15 years, the country has been under the control of different factions. In turn supported by various external factions.

Did we pull our Special Forces guys out of Syria????
The area where the US had some influence was a rather small enclave in the SSE.

Presidents Obama, Trump, and Biden have all managed to keep involvement in Syria at arm's length. The Russians have been pouring money down a rathole for the entire Assad family dynastic regime. It's bought them a couple of military installations. Which may or may not remain now.

The Syrian "rebels" are said to be looking for chinless Assad. They better send a squad to Moscow if they expect to find him. Now Putin has another millstone around his neck to support. They'll put him up in a 3 BR apt. with peeling paint.

UNLESS: Putin has some kind of miracle relief expedition planned. Possible but not highly likely, considering his other involvements. Evidence of popular support for Assad's upset by ordinary citizens in Syria is probably discouraging for a re-do.

From what I understand, the rebels launched their attack as the Russians are busy in Ukraine and Israel pretty much destroyed Hezbollah, who Iran allowed Assad used to help fight the rebels.

I fear it will turn into a bubblegumshow, with different factions each carving out their own piece. Either that or a religious caliphate like Iran.

I doubt Syria falling is going to be a net positive for Israel.

I can't wait to see the apartments, houses and shopping centers Israel puts up in the Syrian buffer zone.

Israel becomes king of the hill.
