My go to has been Anderson lowers from sportsman but their supply has finally run out. I'm in Salem, and can't seem to find anything but aero lowers. Any shops around Oregon semi close to me that have better options? The cost of shipping / transfer has gotten crazy, it would be adding $40-$50 on top of the cost of whatever lower so even something cheap becames uncheap very fast!

I would choose an Aero lower over an Anderson all day long.
There may not be a performance issue, but for resale Anderson has a stigma.
No way around it.

I dont see that, lowers are not big items shipping is maybe 10 bucks regardless of name brand or basic. So a $50 basic lower might cost you like $60 total.

Plus the 30$ plus everyone charges for the transfer, that's my issue. Ideally there's some smaller local shops that carry a variety of lowers.

isnt the $30 whatever transfer fee regardless of if you had it shipped? Isnt the transfer fee the same as the background check fee?

Depends, but your looking at cost of lower, shipping, transfer, and background check all as separate fees vs finding one local and just paying $10 on top of what's being asked.

Ok, I forgot the stores might add a transfer fee if they arent selling it directly... that can add up if your wanting to keep the cost down. Its hard to find a local shop that keeps exactly what I want in stock, ive pretty much given up on that and become used to ordering everything online now.

The one place close to me no longer does transfers, I think there's a few around town but not that I have used. Likely will just order a complete assembled lower just to justify the cost. Such a bummer, it just gets harder and harder to do anything on a budget.

I bought a couple of old, unbranded, Anderson stealth lowers from a forum member that are drilled all the way through to take misspelled grip screw. I also bought another gun from him and had one waiting to go from another seller about a month ago. All together transfer fees and BGC was 35 dollars. I had paid 65 bucks each for the lowers before any fees.

Gun broker had tons of Anderson lowers brand new for 39 bucks each. Even had them in 3 and 10 packs.

One of the things I can't be bothered with is the resale value of a gol-dern AR.

I have Andersons, Aeros, Colts, RRA, New Frontier, and BCG. The only time I notice a difference is if one has the screw to retain the bolt catch instead of a damn roll pin.

Somebody needs to offer a conversion kit to easily do that for lowers that don't come that way. I hate that roll pin install.

If you don't run with a Spike's Tactical or Noveske lower, that means you suck as an operator and probably have a neck beard.

Saw this deal today...no idea of quality...

I've put together 30ish ARs over the last three decades and have run the gamut on lowers...
Oly
Bushmaster
Stag
Rock River
DPMS
Mega
Anderson
Aero

I've probably done more Anderson in the past 10 years than anything else because its just so darned tempting everytime one goes in sale for $30..( will miss them!) I really miss the Megas, they were awsome for the price point.
With lowers its all about finish and QC, I've had "nice" lowers that were out of spec, price doesnt neccesarily equal quality....

Local...try Curts, was in there tonite and they had some in the case...didnt really check price tho...

Dirty Bird is gtg imo, I have used a bunch of their parts and been very happy with them. Might end up just snagging that if nothing else pans out.

Ive always kinda wanted a Noveske lower just because local, but generally cant justify the cost. Had many spikes back when they seemed to be more common than aero and always loved them.
I"ve built with Aero, Anderson, Geissele, LaRue, Spikes and a few no-names. I found there's not a massive difference between the lowers, and it's the barrel, trigger, fit and finish of the handguard and other components that make the rifle.
Betwen factory builds by Spike's or Noveske, I prefer the former. I have found that you can't go wrong with an Aero builder set for fit and finish. That said, I like my Geissele gear the most, even though its the heaviest.
