Why does it use moon clips? Can it be used without them?

Yes it can Jack - the moon clips can be used to help speed reloads. I got one for my wife several years ago (for more than what he's asking!) and IMO it's worth every penny he's asking. Great deal for a fantastic top shelf revolver. GLWS
