Looks like a fat target hammer not sure if it's a target tigger - are the grip serials numbered to the pistol on the inside?

They also made 8 3/8 inch ones too. Some have the full lug,they made those in 6 and 83/8. All 17s are cool guns in my book.

Smith & Wesson made several models with 8 3/8 inch barrels. The ones I've owned are model 14 (38 special) 17 (22 LR), 27 (357 mag), 29 ( 44 mag), 48( 22 mag), 53 (22 jet). I like the sighting with the longer barrel.
