I finally got around to making a 'Rube Goldberg' 1911 spring weight gauge.

A short cleaning rod with a cleaning patch holder worked well, but the ONLY problem was all I had for a 'scale' was about a 100 year old 'Excelsior improved springbalance' device so I don't know how accurate it is but it checked out pretty close with a fishing weight scale at it's 8 lb maximum.

Anyway a piece of steel with a hole in it clamped in a vise, the cleaning rod through it and the scale hooked on the cleaning loop I was able to check a couple 1911 springs.

My 1991 A1 spring only showed 10 LBS so it is going to get replaced (its got a LOT of rounds through it)

The factory spring on my new RIA 9mm was 10 lbs but I had already replaced IT with a 12 lb spring - and that reflected PERFECTLY on the 'ancient' scale!

I got a small pile of springs that got mixed up ... you'all want to weight them for me? 😵‍💫

Kidding of course, what you did is a great idea.
