Check the member's feedback and number of posts. Since we have to have background checks, you will meet the buyer or seller when the transfer is done. You are not likely to have any problems this way. Where you can get screwed is dealing with someone out of state. I've been screwed a time or two but never on this site.

If, by not getting ripped off, you mean getting a fair price for your goods, I would suggest searching the classified ads for similar firearms and seeing what other people are asking for them. You can also search gun broker and see what prices look like there. As I recall, if you open an account on gun broker, you can see what the items actually sold for and not just the asking price. That should give you a pretty good idea of current market prices for previously owned firearms.

Is there a section with info on how to not get ripped off when selling firearms on here?
Are you into communication? When I first came here I communicated with the people that I was buying from. Seeing as I didn't have anything when I first came here, I was a buyer. I called people. And talked to them. Still consider a good number of people I've dealt with friends. Now if you're one of those that only communicates through text, never face to face. Doesn't look people in the eye when you DO talk to them? I can't help you. I'd say your chances HERE, are a helluva lot better than Craigs List though. Good luck!

^ This. In Oregon you are going to make the transfer at an FFL, usually a gun shop. I would say the odds of getting robbed in such a public place, where the proprietors and their employees are usually armed, are pretty slim, if that's what you are worried about. I've never heard of it happening.

The buyer will hand over their ID to the FFL as part of the transaction, so if they should try to make it out the door with your firearm without paying, it should be pretty easy to track them down.

Deal in cash only. Don't take personal checks.
