Vortex crossfire ii 2-7x scout scope should fit your bill. Better than bottom budget, less than high end.... then you'll figure out they are a novelty without spending a ton... because I did the same thing...

I dunno i have the vortex Sorona which is their cheapest 4-12 and it works pleanty fine for shooting out to 880 yards. around 900 yards its starts not looking the best. As for that scout scope its totally fine.

with a 4.0" eye relief, would you really call that a scout scope?

Burris 2-7 Scout is a great choice but they have raised their prices from 379 to 500. I would use a red dot before I would use a Vortex crossfire ii 2-7x scout on a hard cycling 308; might have a lifetime warranty, but you will likely need it. Any good quality pistol scope will suffice unless you are looking for a holdover reticle.
