'Rumor' had it at one time 'Dirty Harry' was secretly funded by S & W to promote the sales of the Mod 29 which up until the movie came out it was kind of specialized and expensive, and in a 'niche' category with only 2000ish sold but after the movie S & W was bombarded with orders for like 200,000 of them.

The rumor of course was never confirmed and always denied by S & W.
