The M77 models were in sequence, MK 1 then MK 2 (1991) , followed by Hawkeye (2006).

I've never heard them called a MKI. This is an M77.

Me either but i suppose the first m77 could also be called mark 1, learn something new everyday. I think i might call ruger tomorrow and see what they have to say about it. I know its a great rifle. My dad bought it new and never shot it then gave it to me on my 18th and I've sighted in and shot a spike 3 yrs ago. Other than that its been in a case in a safe. It would be better off with someone who will put it to use.

M77 are great rifles. Designed on the Mauser 98 platform they are very strong and reliable. Mark II's and Hawkeye's have a few improvements. The first editions just say M77, while later versions say M77 Mark II or Hawkeye on receiver.
