What would be ever so neato in this perennial idea / project would be a custom rifle that featured:

  • Short Mauser action.
  • Chambered in .50Æ.
  • Fed by Desert Eagle magazines.
  • Nice wood stock.
  • Quality glass.
  • Integral silencer.
Not real likely to ever see fruitian, but it does set the mind abuzz. 😉
I like nearly every bit of that, cept the caliber, which if were going .50, might as well really get there and go .500 S&W with their own 5 or 6 round mags!
I'm thinking sort of like the Ruger Gunsite Scout, just ditch the scout part, and better express sights!

Interesting. I have looked into these conversions in the past, but Rhineland had stopped making them and their website said they didn't plan to anytime soon. And all the retailers were out of stick. Good to see they may be back.

My FFL buddy said last time he ordered one it took 6mo to ship.
My Enfield JC is getting a 308 makeover but had I not opted to do that (already bought the barrel), I would have considered doing the Delisle Integral.
My 77/44 is going to get the integral… just waiting to see what gunsmith is going to do it for me. My favorite smith is medically occupied right now.

I see that @Ura-Ki beat me to it. Why choose the 50 AE when the 500 is available? The only reason I could see would be a smaller boltface.

Feeding devices. The Desert Eagle magazines, while pricy, are widely available, work, and hold seven shots; all of which fits in to this curious niche fascination. And a .50Æ out of a 16" barrel is nothing to sneeze at.

Now, all that said, if there was a way to create a detachable, box fed, .500 S&W Magnum version, that holds at least six rounds, absolutely going with that. More power and fine companion to the revolver in said.

@Ura-Ki may well be on the right track with Ruger Scout Rifle, because they do have big, honking, detachable magazines, in various calibers. I'd imagine something could be made to work with the large, rimmed cartridge. I, briefly, had one in .450 Bushmaster.* Beautiful looking and conceived rifle. The action just sucked so bad it made a Mosin (almost) look decent by comparison. I have to believe I just got a lemon, but it soured me on the line.

Anywho, neat, but rather academic at this point. This itch has been largely scratched with the Destroyer fascination and what remains of my firearms interests are elsewhere at the present. :s0155:
