Well, when out shooting my new RIA the other day I had to file the front down about a 1/3 or more to get the POI on target.

I do not like doing things like this but I really like the rear sight and figured I'd 'carefully' file the front down and try to use it.

It was shoot a couple rounds, file, shoot a few more until I brought it up to 'minute of tin can' at about 25-30 yards!

At least it looks like it's dovetailed so you can replace it if you want. File it works though.
I've done it a few times with putting peeps on lever guns. Better to get one too tall and file it down, than to get one too short and buy a second.

I agree, when replacing, upgrading etc Im of the mantra things should fit from the factory as is and modifying them is "bubba".... well, I had to backpedal recently on the same issue.
I put some new sights to cowitness with a pistol optic which they did just fine except they shot way low. Turns out I got the wrong sights in the order, a supplier issue. They wanted me to send them back which is fair but I already installed them and weighing my options filing down the front sight suddenly did not seem like the big deal I was making it to be.
I used the sight height calculator from Dawson Precision said I needed to remove .041", not only did it work exactly, but I was able to set my sight picture at my preferred center mass hold. I touched up the raw material with Birchwood Aluminum Black and it seems to blend right in. I had to hand shape the radius on the front side back to shape, alls good.

Well, because the front sight is dovetailed I didn't make too big of a deal out of it knowing I can easily change it if I want but I think it's going to work out ok. And, filing is, well, pretty 'elementary' . Ya just got to take it slow and keep the file level!

As long as I can 'kill' pinecones at 25-30 yards consistently Im good with it!

Careful there. You may reduce the value of that gun to $379 or so. :p

Heck no. It's worth more than you paid for it now. It's CUSTOM. You got it where you want it. You'll enjoy shooting it more. Congrats.
