When I was younger, K-Mart had a cafeteria in their stores. It seemed good at the time. In California, maybe up thru the mid 90s there was a club store called FedCo. I think you had to be some form of government employee to be a member. They also had a decent in-store cafe.
Oh heck yes! K-Mart diner! They used to have a special on ham sandwiches, 10 for a dollar. We'd buy a bag and throw them in the freezer.

Keep 'em coming. :D

Burgerville used to run a deal on either cheeseburgers or hamburgers. 1 for $1.50 or something like that. Dad used to get 10 of them at a time and stuck them in freezer. Hated the soggy stuff when he microwaved them :s0170:

We grew up on A&W and Burgerville . After doing Grandma's and our yard work Dad would reward us . Back when it was affordable . :)

Chicken Bar in Beaverton was one of my all-time favorite fast food places. Sooo good.
Whimpy's Restaurant in Woodland Wa had awesome shakes and great burgers too. Always stopped there whenever I went to Seattle. it's a Starbucks now :(.
Chilli's had awesome chicken fried chicken and my wife and I loved to split a fajitas. The molten lava cake was awesome too.
Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. I shared a birthday with my grandpa's and we always went to Farrell's to celebrate when I was a kid. So many good memories there.

The one I miss the most was Casa Beaz on Lancaster in Salem. It really hurt when Hector decided to retire and shut it down. They had the best Mexican food anywhere.

Back in the '70s there was a pub in Beaverton with lots of pool tables just south of the tracks and it had the absolute best triple decker ham & cheese sandwich ... BUT I can't remember the name of it ? Anyone remember it ??

And then he started describing the "depression". Wow.
Mine too.

Used to take me to Goodwill to pick out my Christmas present.

One day, I watched as he was cleaning up a pair of really old boots, one of which had a one inch hole clear thru the sole. He held up the other one, and excitedly said "This one is still a pretty good boot right here!" Not realizing what he was saying.

My Hero, though. Always will be.

After 25 years away (military and DoD), I returned to Oregon in 2002 figuring that I would miss two of my favorites. Lo and behold, I was thrilled to find Rubio's (fish tacos) out in Gateway and El Pollo Loco in Cedar Hills, but they're both long closed now and I'm very, very sad.

El Pollo Loco didn't last that long, just a few years it seemed…

They just keep coming out of the woodwork. :D

Eve's was actually a big full-menu restaurant in the larger/newer stores. Again, as a latch-key kid, I ate at Eve's often. I remember it fondly.😍

And Newberry's, Woolworth, Kress, even Meier and Frank, they all had pretty great lunch counters.😊

.
My grandmother would take me downstairs at Woolworths to pick out a toy, and then we went upstairs and had lunch on the barstools. I was like 6. I forgot all about that. Thanks for reminding me.

How 'bout Sears and Roebuck on Grand Avenue?
A wonderful store, a wonderful diner, and oh the smell of popcorn and the candy counter!

My Mom didn't have much money, but I'd often get a little bag of the chocolate stars.
😍
