It appears the word MAGNUM is engraved in the side of your receiver, this would denote that your 870 is equipped with the ejector for 3-inch shells (also works with 2 3/4-inch shells). Any chance your barrel is marked to chamber both 2 3/4-inch shells as well as 3-inch shells?

It does say magnum on the side, the barrel says, "12 GAUGE for 2 3/4 shells or shorter". I do not believe the barrel to be the one that it originally came with. However, it is the one that came with it when I purchased it.
