I am curious if there is any good reference material of the Moukahla type (مكحلة) muskets from North Africa. I'm not turning up much, beyond the basic, of which I was already largely familiar. Curious about history and mechanics, naturally, but more so the cultural significance of the unique ornamentation usually present on these type of arms.

I have stumbled across from time to time...
Pictures from WWII...featuring native North African troops....using flintlock and percussion muskets .
Would be interesting to see the WTH look on the German Doctor's face as he removes a .69 - .75 lead round ball from a wounded DAK soldier.

Some pictures show both a musket and a US 1917 Enfield with the same North African Trooper.
