Well, Sir, I'm certainly not local, but I know a couple of people who shoot the Pedersoli Gibbs long-range target rifle. I don't think that 'messing' around with one is exactly what they do. I DO know that they are committed and very serious rifle shooters for whom this specialist arm, at about a quarter the price of a real one, offers a good intro into the skill and art of long-range rifle shooting here in UK and elsewhere.

There is a degree of commitment needed to get one of these thoroughbreds shooting properly - not least is mastering the art of paper-patching the hardened lead bullet.

I'll stop there, and let more experienced shooters here have their turn.

Take a look at the NMLRA Long range muzzle-loading shoots, and see if this aspect of black powder shooting is something that you feel you want to invest in - time, money and dedication.

Reading THIS by David Minshall - UK national and international medal winner and record holder in the MLAGB - and owner of Research Press - will give you some idea - http://www.researchpress.co.uk/index.php/marksmanship/lrml/pedersoli-gibbs

I do not own one...but had a friend who owned the "African Hunter". , in the "Gibbs" line of rifles.
I found that the rifle shot well.

My issue with it was , much like many Pedersoli firearms....it doesn't really copy the actual firearm it is supposed to be a replica of... No matter the sales ad text / copy states.

With that said...
Historical correctness may or not matter to you....like it does to me.
The rifle itself was well made , the fit and finish superb , and as I said...it shot well.

I am already involved in bullet casting and feeding Schuetzen rifles so this would be just kind of an extension of what I already do. I've owned a couple of Pedersoli rifles. the barrel quality was very good but the lock work left a little to be desired I just wondered if this rifle was the same.

The Pedersoli Gibbs long range percussion rifle is a replica of the original 1865 target rifle made by the English gunsmith, George Gibbs. His rifles competed against other custom built target rifles of the era and in the right hands it proved capable of beating the costly custom built target rifles of that time. Today, the Pedersoli Gibbs rifle has proven to be the most successful rifle of it's type and has won most of the Gold medals in international and domestic (US) shooting matches for this type of rifle. The Pedersoli Gibbs rifle holds several NRA of America and international long range records out to 1000 yards as well as records for shorter ranges.
