They say to wear bells while hiking on remote trails as well as carry bear spray. However, it's always a good Idea to be able to identify bear scat. For example, black bear scat is dark in color and usually contains leaves, berries and other vegetation and smells like bear poo. Grizzly scat however is usually lighter in color and may contain bells, birkenstocks and often smells like bear spray.
