The Ithaca 37 is a excellent choice.
Light and well balanced , they are great to carry and not hard the recoil with most small game or upland loads...
If you are not adverse to a single shot shotgun , the NEF , and H&R "Pardner" and "Topper" series are Lefty friendly.
Simpson's LTD is a great online source for Side by Sides and Over / Unders often for $500 or less.
Granted these are usually Spanish or other European imports from the 50's-70's ... But I have thought that if found with some more open chokes , they would work for small game / Upland birds and such...
