I went to their website to check the box declaring that I failed to kill an Elk this year. Nowhere could the East Cascade Muzzleloader unit be found. I was directed to a list of many units, but not mine. I live about three miles from a Regional Office at Camp Adair so I drove out there this morning and got it straightened out. There are a LOT of people working there. I hope none of them are doing work more complicated than making a list and checking it twice.

Sometimes the hunt area isn't a "Unit". My son had a mule deer tag for Hart Mountain a couple of years ago. There were at least two Units in the Hart Mountain hunt area. He had to do a little research while filling out his tag to come up with the Unit he was in when he killed his buck. I drew the Eagle Cap Zone for elk this year. I think there are five Units in that one. When filling out the online success (or lack thereof) report, I just put in the Unit we hunted the most.

I looked at the Game Regs. It appears Hunt 234M is the East Cascades muzzleloader elk hunt. It shows the following for units:

HUNT 234M, 234T, and 234X: E Cascade - 70% public land. All of Units 34, 39 and that part of Unit 77 west of Hwy 97.

I am aware of that and have hunted it for years. Regardless 234M was not a choice and it's not my responsibility to try to unscramble their eggs. All the other units are there just not this one.
