Reese vs. ATF may shortly make this entire conversation irrelevant. Not sure where we are on the injunctive relief on that, or how much wider that will be past the fifth circuit in the immediate future, but it looks like the national winds are blowing that way. We could be months out on a massive rule change or years, depending on how the courts go.

But I will say +1 to McCluskey, they are my local smith and do excellent work. Their only problem is they are swamped and Eric says they have to turn away work because they have no way to get it done in a timely manner. For someone like me who is willing to wait it is no real issue, but if you want stuff done fast you either need to have a small job that they can crank out or be lucky and catch them in a lull.

Another option would be to mail it out to @wired as he does work on MP5 clones. We were discussing getting a trilug on an K for me, but I keep waffling on if I want the lug or if I want to keep it as a super shorty.

Either way there are options, and if you don't mind the lug not being rifled all the way to the tip you can just get the barrel threaded to whatever length and pop on the lug to that.

My son got one of those from palmetto for the $800 sale. He is 20 and had no issues. I ended up buying an ap5 from Atlantic's last month. Cool guns

My guess is that it is going to be pricey to have the barrel cut and threaded as it is not threaded into the receiver but pressed in. Make sure if you go the route of cutting/threading that you use someone who is intimately familiar with the MP5 platform with a proven track record. Not a simple or cheap job.

I have a pin and welded MKE MP5. Did the job myself though, first ever time welding and its a miracle i didn't destroy the thing.

The barrel extension really messes up the weight balance. Its ok with an A2 stock, but A3 is terrible. Need to just SBR it at some point. If you arent too picky about balance maybe it'd be fine, but I am picky enough I wouldnt even run a suppressor if I had one, lmao

If you want it I'd consider selling so I could buy a fresh pistol instead of doing the chop. I do like the thing but I could live without a stock while the paperwork goes through... although I'd miss it
