FYI this is not a Fancy Sporting Rifle variant. You just happen to have some tiger striped walnut. All the fancy's I've ever seen have stock checkering and the fancy walnut leans more towards the claro pattern. I see the mag hanger/ring is not present. Was the magazine tube cut down or donated from a different gun? At your asking price I would highly recommend you spend the $80 + postage to have the factory record pulled. See the link below. If you get a record from the museum and find out more I would be interested, I have a similar model 94 in 32ws.
 
Same, what site is best you think for looking at dates for serial numbers? Based on serial numbers I keep getting 1899 even though he put 1898. 99 would make more sense since that is the year the cartridge was invented.
Did you add "takedown" into your search query? I'm still coming up with 1898.
