Here's a mixmaster 1911 I got in a trade a couple months ago.
Exercito brasileiro - fabrico de Itajura slide on a JPE Pomona frame.
The slide is probably 1960's, with no serial number. eBay sellers ask $200 for a serial number version.
The frame has the infamous JPE/Sarco short handle, not full and not a commander, with GI spacing grip bolts. A full size magazine sticks out about a 1/4". The early pachmayr grips work well, as they create a kinda mag well and are flush. But it is weird, the mainspring housing is full size, and the grip safety is a little shorter.
The slide and frame fit feel pretty smooth. Not sloppy and not overly tight.
The barrel has some hack filing, although it is necessary to fit the slide. I found a stainless barrel that would need the same filing to fit, unless the slide is opened up. While it is ugly, it fits really well. For this reason I have not shot it.
The only thing I did was swap the trigger (and plunger spring assembly) , as the one that came with it had the same hack filing.
The finish is truck gun shooter quality. Look at pics closely. It seems like a thin parkerized finish, with some wear. Looks better in person.
The magazine came with this, and it is ugly but did work fine in another 1911.
********
Anyway, yea you can buy a tisas or RIA for a similar price, but if you want a winter project or want to learn gunsmithing on a 1911, this is a good start that doesn't have major consequences if you mess up. The frame and slide were not modified, so it's a good base.
It also would be a good 22lr conversion…
$340 with extra SS barrel, extra plastic grips, old magazine.
$300 with no extra SS barrel
I'd consider trades or put this in for a partial upgrade trade with cash. Searching for a mini 14/30, and who knows what else. I'm into hot rods, early stereo stuff, good tools, typical chit…
