Yes, the Glenfield Model 60 was manufacturer from 1960 to 1982 (AFAIK). I would say more "uncommon" than rare. Definitely rarer than the standard model 60's, however - especially the newly-made ones.

What is special about this Marlin that makes it RARE? Is it because it is a Glenfield?

Way back when, JC Penney sold guns... Glenfield was their 'brand'

Made by Marlin, the Glenfield was no different than the regular Marlin 60... Basically, being a Glenfield means that it originally sold new through JC Penney.

This article claims that the Model 60 has outsold the Ruger 10/22 2:1 even!

They are great guns, I have two. Both Glenfields with the squirrel stock!

Nice info! I had always thought I got it from Sears, but JC Penny makes a little more sense.
