I picked up a 336y remlin from a great member on here. Im using it as a pickup gun for the farm, its been in the truck and tractor last 3 weeks or so. Im just noticing the finish is starting to get some surface rust on it so ive been wiping it down periodically. It just seems like this finish sucks! Is this one of the remlin flaws? Any recommendations besides what im doing to keep the surface rust down? Ive always had stainless guns or old school blued guns in the pickup, this finish just feels ruff and different.

You may try wiping it down with mineral spirits and then putting a couple coats of paste wax on it. I use Johnson's Paste Wax or Renaissance Wax, but I've heard that Johnson's discontinued offering their product. I've heard this era of Marlin had such issues with the finish that was factory applied. Another option would be to have it hard chromed, or cerakote, but not sure what that would cost and whether it would be worthwhile for what you are using the gun for.

Another vote for paste wax (Minwax still makes it and it's in the same yellow-colored can as Johnson's was.)

Put it on wood AND metal. Work gun? (or in my case, Alaska trips) Don't even polish it off. Who cares what it looks like while its doing a job and remaining preserved?

...and polished off, it'll make a classic look like it's still on the Hardware Store shelf, and elevate a Safe Queen to Goddess.

Ya its not a beauty contest.....just want to be able to hand it down to my kids some day and not give them a pile of rust. Part of me wants to put it in the safe and find a jm stamped trapper model. I should of held out......
