Low; low and Left; left... or???

I believe most sights and scopes follow the same adjustment direction for elevation and windage.

With sights, is there a good way that you all use to remember:

If I'm hitting low from my point of aim, I adjust DOWNWARD
If I'm hitting to the left from my PoA, I adjust to the LEFT

Or is it the other way around?

Scope markings make no sense either, with their UP --> and RIGHT --> symbols...

For irons I adjust to POI using "FORS" (Front Opposite, Rear Same).

Scopes and Red Dots usually say "up/down" or "left/right" which is the POI.

Red Dots can be tricky to sight in, irons/scopes are easy with practice.

Helped a new guy at the range sighting in a scoped rifle. We finally figured out he put the scope on rotated 90 degrees?
Elevation adjustment was on the side and wind-age knob on the top.

First you need to understand that the rifle ALWAYS shoots in the same spot, it's the sights that change, so in that regard with scopes - move the scope to where the bullet is hitting.

It's the way you want the bullet to go. If you're hitting left and want the hit to go right, turn the knob how it says to have it go there.
