Hi everyone,

Time to set my ego aside. This isn't the easiest post to write, but I'm looking to improve as a shooter and figured this community is the right place to ask.

I recently picked up a new rifle and would like help properly sighting it in, along with some instruction on solid bench/bag fundamentals (position, consistency, reading groups, reticle etc.). I'm not new to firearms, but I'm very aware there's a difference between owning guns and shooting them well, and I'd like to close that gap.

I'd also be interested in working with someone on pistol marksmanship—grip, trigger control, accuracy—again at a foundational but refinement-focused level.

I'm a member at the local gun club and have regular access to the pistol and 100-300 yard range so scheduling is flexible. Compensation is absolutely on the table and can be discussed based on experience, credentials, or instruction background.

If you enjoy teaching, mentoring, or just helping someone become a more disciplined and capable shooter, I'd really appreciate connecting. Feel free to reply here or message me directly.

Thanks for reading and for being part of a community where it's okay to ask for help.

Firearms Academy of Seattle in Onalaska Washington, an hour north of Portland, has rifle classes. The staff is excellent and so are the prices.

RE : Speaking of Appleseed.
Maybe it's an excuse to get (or assemble your own) one of these?

PS.....what is that?

Shuten Defensive are good people who know their stuff. They focus on fundamentals and safety, and their teaching style is casual but no-nonsense. Class sizes are small; the pistol course I took from them had three other people in it, and they do private lessons as well. What I learned in that half-day class has stayed with me ever since, and has truly improved my shooting.
Regardless of your skill level (absolute beginner to a competitor looking for an edge) they will have a class for you. Check 'em.

Don't underestimate a pellet gun. The same techniques, all but the BANG! (usually). Cheaper to practice, perhaps even in your own backyard.

I've competed, trained and coached rifle/pistol/airguns for almost a decade. When the weather gets better, you're invited to come practice with me. I'll share whatever I can, no charge. I'm not as good or as experienced as many are here, but I'm willing to expand that whenever I can. :)

Marksmanship
is a broad term for skill in shooting and encompasses the application of shooting fundamentals to achieve a desired result, whether it is hitting a general target in a tactical situation or a precise spot in competition. Precision shooting refers specifically to the aspect of shooting that emphasizes consistency and tight grouping of shots, often in a competitive context, to hit the exact same spot repeatedly.

I understand what you are asking for. That is the right road to take, but I'll throw a little twitch in for you.
You want/need someone that you can talk to and ask 'why' questions of. Yes of course you want quality instruction and making a friend while they can teach you the mechanics of shooting will take you farther than just the book learning of it all. When you once 'know it all' (sarcasm) you end with a friend, and a friend who will answer your questions or tell you when you are incorrect.
So far all I saw were businesses, which are fine as far as that goes.

I was lucky and found that person as we were standing at the 100yd range. We'd shoot for a couple of hours then have lunch & beers on the way home. (Have slept on his couch & woke up with the dog. (story for another time)). I didn't grow up with firearms so I was a late learner.
Hope you find such a friend.

Merry Christmas everyone
