I have that savage in a 30.06. Been in Safe for years. It's a smooth shooter. I switched to 30.06 at 14 and I was scrawny back then. Thai was my dads gun.

Don't be afraid to pick up a RH Savage. I shoot left in rifles and use a regular Savage 110 Trophy hunter setup that works just fine shooting left or right. I have found as well that the right-handed action is easier to handle shooting left-handed anyway. Good luck with your search. Depending on your sons age and size you may want to step down as the 270 has a lot of recoil like all long action rifles.
